Although I did not sign up for this class, I have to admit the
initial lessons have definitely grabbed my attention. I have definitely noticed
many different representations of females in both modern and past situations
and texts, but apart from during snippets of previous English classes or short
friendly debates with my peers, I haven’t really considered the full depth and
variation to which the representations may go.
From the damsel in distress to the strong independent woman,
throughout history women have been seen in many different ways, though often
varying not as black and white as they are usually made out to be. I look
forward to exploring this further as we begin to look at the course and its
themes more in depth.
How women are portrayed in/through film and music is a
particular interest of mine, and I think I will have a fun and interesting
experience diving and exploring deeper into these categories in particular.
The image I have chosen shows women’s current beauty
standards and the expectations of what they’re supposed to be, and it intrigues
me to find out how this changes as the period of time moves.
